One of Covenant Birth Center's major goals is to provide a beautiful and tranquil out of hospital setting that low-risk women can truly enjoy.  While our first priority is safety for both mother and baby, we realize, as women, that creating a beautiful birth memory is very important. 

We seek to honor the intimacy of birth and the bonding process that sets the stage for all future mother/child interactions.

• Equipment to enhance your labor include birth balls, birth stool, birth slings, hot and cold packs, massage oils, aromatherapy and the soothing sounds of your own music or a private waterfall

• Freedom to eat, drink and move about in labor without the restrictions of monitor belts or IVs

• Intermittent monitoring, even under water to ensure your baby's safety

• All prenatal visits, birth and postpartum care are in the same comfortable setting

• Education is included in every prenatal visit 

• Labor and Postpartum Doulas available, as desired

• A lending library of quality books and videos on labor, birth, breastfeeding and childcare

• Additional childbirth education, nursing education and baby classes are offered

CBC is located only 3 minutes from Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia.

Once admitted to CBC, your family will have a private birth room until you leave. In addition to the birth room, there are kitchen facilities and a family room / waiting room.

Waiting Room

Any family, friends that you want at the birth are welcomed.  When appropriate, fathers or partners may choose to "catch" the baby with the midwife's assistance.  Many women, after laboring in the birth tub, will also choose to give birth there.

Moms and babies are never separated. Newborn exams are done right next to you with everything being explained as we go. Early breastfeeding is encouraged.

Before leaving the Birth Center, you are taught what to expect in the next days and weeks and how to monitor your baby's health. While the length of time a family remains in the birth center after the birth of the baby varies, typically, families stay approximately 6 hours.  Most are eager to return home and settle in with their new baby.
