Testimonials
We've included testimonials from our home birth and Covenant Birth Center clients. It is our joy to serve moms in both settings so that their birth can be everything they desire.
We look forward to the time that we can add your Covenant Birth Center testimonial to this list.
"We felt extremely blessed by our stay at the birth center. The staff was attentive, supportive and yet not at all intrusive. We were all well cared for in a peaceful and gentle environment."

I’ve been wanting to, for 4 weeks, to put into words how grateful and blessed I am to have had you as a midwife. In all honesty, I couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful and fulfilling birth experience. It was everything that I’d dreamed a homebirth could be…and more. Your intuition is amazing. You gave me exactly what I needed for support, when I needed it…and never too much. You gave me the strength and power to trust my body and instincts during labor. That’s an amazing gift. It makes me wonder if as a doula, I often try to do too much for my moms. But, most of my doula clients are primips, and that’s an entirely different ball game. I wish that I had the money to pay you twice what you charge, because you’re certainly worth it…but it still wouldn’t be enough. You gave me and my family a present that will treasure forever…and a story to pass on to the coming generations. All the money in the world couldn’t buy that in a hospital.
My words will never be enough to really tell you what you mean to me and what you did for us. Midwifery is something special in and of itself, and your presence at Henry’s birth was a gift from God. I kid you not…the experience makes me want to just keep having babies!!!
Love you!

Lisa Byrd is as personable as you need her to be and as professional as you want her to be without compromising you or your baby's health. Her first concern is for the healthy delivery of a baby therefore she uses discretion when covenanting with a mother to be her midwife. With that in mind, you will be rest assured that you have a midwife that does not see you as a customer, but rather a woman that can deliver a healthy baby. Her submission to all governing agencies and relations with health authorities will put even the most apprehensive person at ease about the quality of care that she provides. My skeptical husband can attest to that (he loves Lisa and is excited about our second homebirth assisted by Lisa) She will spend the time to answer any questions you or your spouse have. We laughed and talked all the way until my Tabitha was born. I can't wait until my next little one is ready to enter this world, because I know that with Lisa, it will be an awesome experience!

My personal experience with Lisa as my midwife was a chapter in my life of which I am most proud. Having a previous birth in the hospital, I knew I wanted something more personal and genuine with my second child. I chose to have a home birth and was so pleased with every aspect of Lisa's care. She traveled from her home in St. Matthews, SC to my home in Charleston for every prenatal visit and ultimately for the birth of my son. She was always readily available to answer any questions I might have had regarding diet, supplements, health issues concerning the baby, or any other topic that could affect me or the baby. Her knowledge and passion are enormous, but the size of her heart is bigger than the 9 pound baby she helped me deliver at home! I labored in a birthing pool set up in my daughter's bedroom for several hours. When I decided to get out I suddenly felt the urge to push and ended up delivering on a birthing stool surrounded by my husband and birth team. Lisa made me feel so comfortable and secure that I never had any question that things would turn out beautifully, and they did! If ever I became pregnant again, I'd do it the exact same way-at home with Lisa at my side.

Peaceful Waterborn Henry
When my husband and I found out we were having our first baby; we started our research and soon realized the home birth was the best option for mom and baby. On our first visit with Lisa we knew we needed to have her as ourmidwife. She met our spiritual needs through our common faith. She met ouremotional needs by talking to and caringfor our baby while still in the womb. Shemet our physical needs through her knowledge and experience with pregnancy and labor and delivery. Being a nurse, and knowing the medicalfield, and how doctors control the delivery of a baby; I really appreciated the freedom Lisa provided me to control the actual birthing of our child. Even though a home birth is not the easiest option, Lisa empowered me withadvice, exercise regimes, and nutrition that strengthened me for the birth; as she will tell you many times, "Healthy momma. Healthy baby." On the morningof our little Lucy's birth Lisa's cared forus not as patients but as a part of her family.Bethany, Jacob, and Lucy, Columbia, SC
You helped me experience one of the most memorable experiences of my life- watching my grandson Henry James be born in his home with the people thatlove him there. You know how worriedI was - coming from a typical Westernmedical family even made it morescary for me. Thanks for helping a veryworried Ma G (grandmother) have awonderful, miraculous experience. Youwere professional, helpful, informative and exhilarating experience for me!! Sarah, Columbia, SCHey Lisa, I was really pleased throughout the entire delivery process, so thought I'd give a testimonial since I was the skeptic! As a medical student,
I had witnessed many births in a hospital setting. Some deliveries had gone smoothly, but I had been part of many with complications. So when my sister informed me that she would be having a home birth, I was apprehensive. However,my sister seemed to be well informed, carefully taking care of her own health as well as her baby's. During the birthing process, the midwives maintained an aura of calmness, helping me to see birth as a natural, beautiful process. The midwives
were able to help my sister funnel her strength into delivering my sweet baby neice. They allowed my sister to be comfortable in her home during an incredible experience.Charis sister of Bethany, Columbia SC
Comments: Lisa made our dreams of a peaceful home delivery come true. Our birth was truly a spiritual and beautiful experience that words cannot describe. Lisa made us feel confident and successful throughout the birth process. Choosing to have a home birth was the first major decision that my husband and I had to make for our child. We both feel that it was the best possible decision for us and we hope that the rest of our decisions regarding raising our daughter turn out just as well!!

From the moment I transferred my care to Covenant Birth Center I began looking forward to my labor and delivery. These women really enjoy and have a passion for what they do and it shines through in their attitude. Even when I knew Lisa had been up all night attending a birth, I still felt she gave her undivided attention during our prenatal visits. The staff was always personable and friendly. I never felt like we actually had to "wait" for our appointment because someone would always stop and say hello and chit chat. I loved how the midwives encouraged us to do research on various topics (easily accessible in their library) to ensure we made educated decisions.. this showed a great respect towards us as future parents and kept us feeling actively involved. At our visits, getting to see the room where I would deliver, I believe, really helped my labor and delivery go quickly and smoothly because I was already so comfortable with the environment. The whole process was just such a beautiful, exciting, enjoyable experience. I definitely plan to use Covenant Birth Center for all of my future pregnancies.
